Heartwork Cohort 2025
Welcome!
When I completed my MA research on black belonging in Islamic schools, I was filled with hope for change. I even designed a comprehensive curriculum to help schools adopt the study’s recommendations. I contacted several institutions, and some were eager to engage in professional development. However, balancing my doctoral program and teaching responsibilities made me realize that, for Heartwork to make an impact, it couldn’t remain within institutional walls. It needed to spread to individuals who could become the driving force of change in their communities.
I’m inviting Muslim women leaders in their homes, families, peer groups, learning spaces, organizations, and workplaces to join a cohort of like-hearted women. This is for women who embrace their responsibility as stewards of their communities, acknowledge that anti-Blackness is real, and are committed to being part of the solution.
This inaugural cohort will meet twice a month from January 2025 to December 2026.
We will explore:
● The history of anti-Blackness and its impact on our communities.
● The teachings in the Seerah and other Muslim literature on creating spaces of belonging.
● Heartwork as a framework for building more prophetic spaces.
● Practical tools to engage in this transformative work.
● An honest examination of the obstacles we’ll face and how to navigate them with community support, prayer, a firm intention, and a deep commitment to justice.
Together, we will build the capacity to create meaningful, lasting change in our communities, God willing,
Rukayat's insights are invaluable. Her online classes are engaging and educational, a must for children worldwide.
